What is Ankara?
Ankara formerly known as ‘’African Prints'' are 100% cotton fabrics with bold and vibrant patterns. It is primarily associated with West-Africans, and is well appreciated for its beautiful motifs and colours.
What does Ankara mean?
Ankara to Africans is a cotton fabric we wear that has bright colour patterns but we haven't really been told the actual definition to the words, but this is all we know about the word ‘’ANKARA’’
What can Ankara be used to make?
Ankara fabrics can be used to make any piece of clothing you can think of, from dresses to skirts and even blouses. Ankara is known for its versatility and the creative freedom it leaves a designer with.
How much fabric would one use to make a jumpsuit with Ankara?
This can vary depending on the type of jumpsuit you are considering making and the type of body you have. A plus-size persons size would differ from that of a slim person.
Four (4) Ankara Jumpsuit designs
Whenever I take my fabric to the designer I give them leverage on what to make for me but because of the versatility of the Ankara fabric I find it a bit difficult to choose a certain design for my tailor to make for me, so today I will be showing and explaining 5 simple but gorgeous Ankara Jumpsuit designs that your tailor can recreate.
1. Half n’ Half Sleeveless V-neck
I was absolutely bamboozled by his dress as you can see the length is to the ankle and finishing with a fish tale palazzo feel. There this no zip to the bottom half of this dress but i feel as though the design was carefully thought out and the dress was made free enough for even a plus size person to fit into. The top piece of the dress has me al in love with it because of the cleavage from the V-neck and its connected with a band about four inches long. This is a style one can also make if they have left over Ankara fabric as they can pair it with the black cotton fabric to make it a complete dress.

2. T-shirt sleeved with buckle
The concept for the top of this piece is so cute. I quite like the t-shirt design, coming in with the lapel and they maintained that thought to the sleeve length, the length also compliments the length of the overall dress perfectly and the combination with the hat is honestly- something i would never have thought of but it came out stunning. The belt-like buckle and the homeless with it came out quite nice and it also adds an accent to this piece.

3. Two Piece Jumpsuit
In what words would I describe this piece- the question I asked myself when I looked at it. The neck was created by two separate pieces of fabrics that ran to the back and, and it left the front open, giving the person the leverage to wear anything they dimmed to fit underneath the top bit. The bottom bit is quite high so I would imagine it would advance the shape of the model.

4. Blue Buba Feel
The look of the fabric reminded me of a Yoruba fabric pattern which I do not know the name of. The top piece gives off an at-leisure wear feel-because of the elastic down the piece but the sleeves are like that of Buba and the elastic down the middle is just a mood. The bottom is quite different from the others because of the elastic and I also think this style would look stunning on women of different sizes.

I hope one of these designs stand out to you and you choose to recreate it because it would look beautiful on you, and now you have seen these designs you can all attest to the fact that whatever designs you have in mind you can comfortably consider this fabric to be the job for you.
